How the countdown clock works
- Type an event name, or tap a quick-start label such as Exam, Vacation, Deadline, Wedding or Birthday.
- Pick the date and, optionally, the time (24-hour clock).
- The clock starts at once and updates every second: days, hours, minutes and seconds.
Under the clock you see the full target date and the time it counts down to in your time zone. When you first open the page, it counts down to the next New Year at midnight, so there is always something to see.
Save and share a countdown
Save countdown stores the event name and date in this browser only. Saved countdowns appear in a list under the clock; select one to open it, or delete it with the bin icon. Up to 20 are kept.
Share creates a link that contains the event name and date after the # in the address. Browsers never send that part of a URL to a server, so Chronira never sees your event. Anyone who receives the link can read the name and date, so share it only with the people you want to invite.
Examples
| From | To | Countdown |
|---|---|---|
| 3 June, 09:30 | 20 June, 14:00 | 17 days, 4 hours, 30 minutes |
| 1 December, 18:00 | 25 December, 00:00 | 23 days, 6 hours |
| 31 December, 23:59:30 | 1 January, 00:00 | 30 seconds |
For the first line: 3 June 09:30 to 20 June 09:30 is 17 days, and 09:30 to 14:00 adds 4 hours 30 minutes. For the second: 1 December 18:00 to 24 December 18:00 is 23 days, and 6 more hours reach midnight.
Common uses
- Counting down to an exam, a trip, a wedding or a product launch.
- Answering “how many days until” a deadline, with the hours as well.
- Putting a countdown date and time on a shared screen before an event starts.
- Sending friends a link that counts down to a party in their own time zone.
Good to know
- The clock measures real elapsed time. If a daylight-saving change happens before the target, the hours left shift by one so that the countdown still ends exactly at the time you chose.
- For common occasions there are ready-made pages, such as how many days until Christmas and the birthday countdown.
- To count whole days between two dates without a live clock, count the days between two dates. For a short countdown in minutes, use the online timer.
