In 2026 MDT began on 8 March and ends on 1 November; in 2027 it runs from 14 March to 7 November.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mountain Time UTC−7 or UTC−6?

Both, depending on the season. Mountain Standard Time (MST) is UTC−7, from the first Sunday in November to the second Sunday in March. Mountain Daylight Time (MDT) is UTC−6 for the rest of the year.

Does Arizona use Mountain Time?

Arizona uses Mountain Standard Time (UTC−7) all year and does not change its clocks. In winter it matches Denver; in summer it matches Pacific Daylight Time in Los Angeles. The Navajo Nation in north-eastern Arizona is the exception and does observe daylight saving time.

How far is Mountain Time from Eastern Time?

Mountain Time is two hours behind Eastern Time all year, because both change their clocks on the same dates. Noon in Denver is 2 pm in New York.

What is the difference between MT, MST and MDT?

MT (Mountain Time) is the general name for the zone. MST is its winter standard time and MDT its summer daylight time. If you write MT, the reader applies whichever is in effect on that date.
