How to use this page
The tool shows the current time and date in India, the Abbreviation (IST, India Standard Time), the UTC offset (+05:30) and the daylight saving status: there is none, so no clock change is ever due. Your time shows the time in your own zone and how far ahead of or behind India you are.
To convert, enter a Time and a Date in IST under Convert a time. The same moment elsewhere lists that moment in the UK, Central Europe, New York, Los Angeles, Dubai, China and Sydney, plus your own zone. The date matters, because those places change their clocks even though India does not.
IST to EST, GMT and PST
Because India stays on UTC+5:30 all year, its gap to Europe, North America and Australia changes with their summer time.
| 12:00 IST | In January | In July |
|---|---|---|
| London | 06:30 GMT | 07:30 BST |
| Paris, Berlin | 07:30 CET | 08:30 CEST |
| New York | 01:30 EST | 02:30 EDT |
| Los Angeles | 22:30 PST (previous day) | 23:30 PDT (previous day) |
| Dubai | 10:30 GST | 10:30 GST |
| Beijing | 14:30 CST | 14:30 CST |
| Sydney | 17:30 AEDT | 16:30 AEST |
Some quick rules: IST is 5 h 30 ahead of GMT and 4 h 30 ahead of BST; 10 h 30 ahead of EST and 9 h 30 ahead of EDT; 13 h 30 ahead of PST and 12 h 30 ahead of PDT. A 9:00 morning call in New York lands at 19:30 or 18:30 in India, depending on the season.
Half-hour offsets
India is one of the few places whose offset is not a whole number of hours. Others include Sri Lanka (also UTC+5:30), Iran (UTC+3:30), Newfoundland (UTC−3:30), central Australia (UTC+9:30) and Nepal (UTC+5:45). That is why a time converted from IST often ends in :30.
