How to use the holiday list

The page shows two tables, one for 2026 and one for 2027. Each row gives:

  • Date and Day: the calendar date and the day of the week.
  • Holiday: the name of the holiday, with a note when one applies, for example a substitute day.
  • Type: Public holiday for days off set by law or government decision, or Observance for recognized days that are not days off.

Below the tables, a coverage note explains which holidays are included, for example national holidays only or a particular region, and links to the Official source of the list. If you plan around these dates, check that source for late changes.

Fixed and moving holidays

Holidays fall into a few kinds. Some are on the same date every year, such as New Year’s Day on 1 January. Others are set to a weekday, for example the first or last Monday of a month, so the date changes each year. Christian holidays such as Good Friday, Easter Monday and Ascension Day move with the date of Easter, which can fall between 22 March and 25 April in the Gregorian calendar. Holidays from lunar or lunisolar calendars move by several days or weeks against the Gregorian calendar.

Substitute days

When a public holiday falls on a weekend, some countries move the day off to a nearby weekday. Where that applies, the list shows the substitute day with a note. Where it does not, the holiday stays on its date and there is no extra day off.

Planning with holidays

Public holidays affect delivery times, office hours, banking and travel. To count the working days between two dates, use the business days calculator. For holidays in other countries, return to public holidays by country, and for a year at a glance, see the printable calendar. If you work with colleagues abroad, the meeting planner helps you find hours that suit everyone.

Frequently asked questions

Are all the days in this list days off?

No. Days marked Public holiday are days off set by law or government decision. Days marked Observance are recognized dates that do not normally give a day off. Individual employers and contracts may still differ.

Are regional holidays included?

The coverage note below the list says exactly which holidays are included. Where states, provinces or regions set their own holidays, some of them may not be listed.

Why do some holidays move from year to year?

Some holidays fall on a fixed weekday, such as the first Monday of a month, and others depend on Easter or on a lunar calendar. The list gives the exact date for each year.
